Use of Video Can Improve Environmental Communication

Aspen’s public participation team for the Desert Harvest Solar Project Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) prepared a comprehensive animated video presentation for the Draft EIS public meetings, which clearly identified the NEPA process, the project schedule, and the key environmental issues for stakeholders. Video presentations can, in some cases, augment or improve upon other types of visual aids. In this case, it allowed for an animated representation of the development of project alternatives, which allowed for a fuller understanding of the process by stakeholders. Take a look at the presentation on YouTube.

The Desert Harvest EIS was also innovative in its use of video-based time-lapse visual simulations to better represent the glint and glare-related issues and the cumulative visual impression of the project for nearby visitors to Joshua Tree National Park. Team member TRUESCAPE prepared these stunning time-lapse videos.
