Aspen Supports Energy Commission On EPIC Program

Aspen is supporting the California Energy Commission’s (Energy Commission) Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) Program in providing funding for applied research and development, technology demonstration and deployment, and market facilitation for clean energy technologies and approaches for the benefit of ratepayers. Over the next six years, Aspen will be supporting the Energy Commission in reviewing grants and proposals for 37 different energy sectors in the areas of energy efficiency, energy generation, energy infrastructure, energy deployment, and market deployment.

In the first couple of months, Aspen has helped the Energy Commission evaluate the following research and development proposals (technical and CEQA evaluation): Improving Performance and Cost Effectiveness of Small Hydro, Geothermal, and Wind Energy Technologies; Advance Breakthrough and Piezoelectric-Based System Development to Increase Market Penetration of Distributed Renewable Generation; and Advancing Cutting-Edge Technologies and Strategies to Reduce Energy Use and Costs in the Industrial, Agricultural and Water Sectors.

Aspen is extremely excited to get into this new energy research and development market that promotes greater electricity reliability, greater renewable energy, lower costs, and increased safety. We see this as a natural and organic growth area for Aspen, especially considering the energy sectors we have been working in for the past 25 years.
