Aspen has been assisting San Bernardino County with the restoration of Sheep Creek .The restoration site is located on the north slope of the San Gabriel Mountains near the community of Wrightwood in San Bernardino County. Elevation of the restoration site ranges from approximately 6,000 feet above mean sea level (amsl) in the north at Lone Pine Canyon Road to approximately 6,300 feet amsl about 0.5 miles south of Lone Pine Canyon Road. The site is bordered by Lone Pine Canyon Road to the north, residential development to the east and west, and undeveloped lands to the south. The restoration site is located on slopes and upland terraces adjacent to Sheep Creek. Sheep Creek originates approximately one mile southeast of the restoration site near Blue Ridge and Wright Mountain. Sheep Creek flows through the restoration site and continues north eventually reaching El Mirage Dry Lake more than twenty miles to the north in the Mojave Desert.
The restoration project consists of restoring portions of Sheep Creek that that were temporarily impacted by construction of the Sheep Creek Channel Invert flood control project. The District constructed the flood control project in 2014 to stabilize the Sheep Creek channel invert and to reduce sediment erosion. The flood control project included the improvement of a 0.6-mile length of trapezoidal earth channel. The District installed rock revetments along the low flow channel side slopes and several concreted rock grade stabilization structures in the channel bed. The flood control project also widened the channel and graded the side slopes to a 2:1 slope.
