Update to Emergency Proclamation and Forest Practice Act, Deadline Extended
On December 31, 2025, Governor Newsom extended the application deadline of the March 1, 2025 Emergency Proclamation to May 1, 2026. The Proclamation allows applicants to request suspension of certain state statutes and regulations, including CEQA and CESA, for qualifying wildfire fuels reduction projects.
Agencies now have additional time to initiate eligible projects.
The suspension authority remains focused on critical wildfire risk‑reduction projects, while still requiring compliance with the Forest Practice Act and application of established Best Management Practices.
This extension is intended to preserve momentum and allow agencies to take full advantage of the rainy season to safely implement fuels reduction work.
If your agency has been considering using the Emergency Proclamation pathway but was concerned about timing, this extension creates a renewed opportunity to move projects forward quickly while maintaining environmental safeguards.
