Biological Monitor

Location: Northern California

Aspen is seeking an on-call Biologist or Biological Monitor in Northern California. Hours will be based on project needs and may require travel, as well as fieldwork.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience or demonstrated knowledge of analyzing biological impacts and developing mitigation strategies under CEQA.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience or demonstrated knowledge of regulatory permitting pursuant to USFWS, CDFW, USACE, and RWQCB requirements.

  • Experience monitoring construction projects.

  • Previous third-party monitoring of large-scale infrastructure projects preferred, but not required; however, any previous environmental monitoring (non-third party) of large-scale infrastructure projects will be considered.

  • A bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a closely related field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Biological field surveys, botanical field surveys, field monitoring.

  • Construction monitoring.

  • Preparing survey and monitoring reports.

Qualifications for Success

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Relevant experience with California and southwestern ecosystems and knowledge of local southern California flora and fauna.

  • Skills in MS Office, ARC GIS, and GPS data collection.

  • Ability to travel regionally as needed. In addition, as this position could involve field work to remote areas, the applicant must be able to travel to and work in rugged terrain during inclement weather.

  • Experience with flora and fauna in the Sacramento and Northern California region.

Compensation

Aspen offers a wide range of benefits and a competitive compensation package. The pay range for this position is $25-$37 per hour, commensurate with experience, and may include overtime.
