Biologist/Biological Monitor

Location: Sacramento, CA
Aspen is seeking a highly motivated Biologist or Biological Monitor in the Sacramento area of Northern California. This is primarily a field position, and may require travel, but also includes office work and reporting.
Responsibilities
Biological field surveys, including both wildlife and botanical field surveys.
Biological construction monitoring.
Preparing survey and monitoring reports.
Working effectively in both field and office environments.
Education and Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience or demonstrated knowledge of biological field work in California, including wildlife and botanical surveys, specifically northern California and the central valley region.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience or demonstrated knowledge of regulatory permitting pursuant to USFWS, CDFW, USACE, and RWQCB requirements.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience analyzing biological impacts and developing mitigation strategies under CEQA.
Experience monitoring construction projects, including implementation of regulatory requirements.
Previous third-party monitoring of large-scale infrastructure projects preferred, but not required; however, any previous environmental monitoring (non-third party) of large-scale infrastructure projects will be considered.
A bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a closely related field.
Qualifications for Success
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Relevant experience with California ecosystems and knowledge of local northern California and California central valley flora and fauna.
Skills in MS Office, ARC GIS, and GPS data collection.
Ability to travel regionally as needed. In addition, as this position could involve field work to remote areas, the applicant must be able to travel to and work in rugged terrain during inclement weather.
Compensation
Aspen offers a wide range of benefits and a competitive compensation package. The pay range for this position is $25-$37 per hour, commensurate with experience, and may include overtime.
