Aspen Attends BLM Signing of DRECP Record of Decision
Due to our team’s involvement in the preparation of the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP), Aspen Environmental Group staff were invited by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to attend the signing of the DRECP Record of Decision (ROD) on September 14, 2016 at the Santa Rosa-San Jacinto National Monument headquarters. The event included a pre-meeting hike through the Monument and speeches by elected officials, tribal representatives, CEC Commissioner Karen Douglas, and BLM State Director Jerry Perez. Secretary of Interior Sally Jewell spoke about the importance of properly developing renewable energy and ensuring conservation on public lands, and how the DRECP facilitates these key goals of the Department. After the speeches, the State Director, Commissioner Douglas, and Secretary Jewell all signed documents. The DRECP is now in effect, so new projects proposed within the California Desert Conservation Area are subject to its requirements.
