Under contract to the Ventura County Watershed Protection District, Aspen prepared the EIR and assisted with completion of the water-related regulatory permit acquisition requirements needed for the Ventura River Arundo Removal Demonstration Project. The project involved the implementation of four different types of Arundo donax (a highly invasive, non-native plant species) removal techniques in the Ventura River to assess each technique's overall eradication effectiveness. Key issues addressed in the EIR included biological resources, water resources and noise. Emphasis was additionally placed on public health and safety to assess issues associated with removal techniques involving herbicides. Aspen's assistance with water-related regulatory approvals included the completion of the application packages and processes needed for permit issuance by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and California Department of Fish and Game.
