Aspen is currently preparing, for the CPUC, two concurrent EIRs that will address the proposed removal of existing steam generators and the replacement with new generators at both Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). The EIRs, which will be completed under an expedited timeframe, will address transportation of the replacement generators, staging and preparation, and removal of the original generators and their disposal. Areas of controversy include hazardous waste issues and the extension of life for the two nuclear plants.
