Aspen Experts Provide Client Training Sessions

With the constant accumulation and change in technological knowledge base and regulatory requirements, training is important both for acquiring new knowledge and for staying up to date on regulations, procedures, and professional practices. Our clients regularly seek courses and instruction on topics that are important to their particular projects or job responsibilities.

To help fulfill this need, Aspen continually offers training courses tailored to each client’s specific requirements in terms of content, duration, and location. Aspen has conducted training courses at client offices, in virtual classrooms, at professional meetings, and in the field on a wide variety of topics. Examples of topics covered in these training sessions include: compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), tribal consultation in compliance with AB 52, environmental awareness training for field personnel, air quality analysis and regulatory conformance, biological resource survey methodologies, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power

In November 2022 and January 2023, Aspen conducted a two-part training module for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), the largest municipal utility in the State. Aspen prepared tailored CEQA and technical analysis training modules for LADWP’s Environmental Planning and Assessment Office. Training content for the first module includes steps to conducting initial study-level screening and analysis for particular environmental factors, data sources and reference materials, and an overview of common mistakes and lessons learned. The second module focuses on visual and scenery management and analysis requirements for federal land management agencies, and the steps to conduct a seen area analysis.

Silicon Valley Power

In July 2020, Aspen provided an Introduction to CEQA training course for 35 Silicon Valley Power (SVP) employees. The CEQA training presented an overview of each type of CEQA clearance document, with particular focus on categorical exemptions, negative declarations, and mitigated negative declarations. The training also included relevant connections with ongoing SVP projects to highlight the applicability of the CEQA requirements and procedures.
